     Hugh Maxwell Douglas was born on 21 May 1881.2 He was the son of John Douglas and Sarah Hickey.1 He married Hannah Elizabeth Thornton, daughter of E. L. Thornton, on 21 December 1904.2 He died on 8 April 1918 at age 36, on active service.2
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) [Queensland]2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 47th Battalion, Australian Imperial Forces.2
