Ralph Jean James Hope-Vere was born on 13 December 1887.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. James Charles Hope-Vere and Marie Elizabeth Françoise Guillemin.1 He married Esmée Crabbe, daughter of Lt.-Col. H. Crabbe, on 18 October 1928.1 He died on 12 October 1959 at age 71.1
He gained the rank of Midshipman in the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Flying Corps.1 He was awarded the Air Force Cross (A.F.C.)1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1944.1 He was awarded the Silver Medal of Italy for valour.1 He held the office of Member of the Dumfries-shire County Council.1 He lived at Blackwood, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1
