     Colonel Francis Cornwallis Maude, V.C. was born on 28 October 1828.1 He was the son of Captain Hon. Francis Maude and Frances Brooking.2 He married Paulina Susannah Sterling, daughter of Hon. Paul Ivy Sterling, on 24 January 1860.1 He died on 19 October 1900 at age 71.1
     He was awarded the Victoria Cross (V.C.)1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Artillery.2 He was Consul-General to Warsaw between 1876 and 1886.1 He was Military Knight of Windsor.2

     From 24 January 1860, her married name became Maude.

     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Garrison Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Major in the West African Regiment.1
