     James Douglas Hay was born on 26 June 1865.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Woulfe Hay and Alida Maria Porteous.1 He married Florence Louisa Price, daughter of Henry Habberley Price, on 4 October 1911.1 He died on 18 January 1952 at age 86.1
     He was appointed Fellow, Geological Society (F.G.S.)1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Mining and Metallurgy (M.I.M.M.)1 He fought in the Boer War.1 He fought in the First World War, in Hyderabad Volunteer Rifles.1
