Matthew Lewis Vaughan Davies, 1st and last Baron Ystwyth1

     Matthew Lewis Vaughan Davies, 1st and last Baron Ystwyth was born on 17 December 1840.1 He was the son of Matthew Davies and Emma Davies.1 He married Mary Powell, daughter of Thomas Powell, in December 1889.1 He died on 21 August 1935 at age 94, without issue.1
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1875.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Cardigan between 1895 and 1920.1 He was president of the Agriculture Department at University of Wales, WalesG.1 He was created 1st Baron Ystwyth, of Tan-y-Bwich, co. Cardigan [U.K.] on 18 January 1921.1
