     Maj.-Gen. John Ryder Oliver was born on 16 December 1834.3 He was the son of John Dudley Oliver and Mary Susanna Green.1 He married, firstly, Georgina Frances Harrison, daughter of George M. Harrison, on 19 April 1864.3 He married Mary Hinds, daughter of W. G. Hinds, on 30 June 1880.3 He died on 10 February 1909 at age 74.3
     He was educated at Leamington College, Leamington, Warwickshire, EnglandG.3 He was commissioned in 1855 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Royal Artillery.3 He was educated at Caius College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.3 He fought in the Indian Mutiny between 1857 and 1859, where he was mentioned in despatches.3 He gained the rank of Lieutenant between 1860 and 1864 in the Royal Horse Artillery.3 He fought in the Bhutan War between 1864 and 1865, where he was mentioned in despatches.3 He gained the rank of Brigade-Major between 1869 and 1874 in the Royal Artillery, Aldershot.3 He was Commandant between 1886 and 1888 at Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario, CanadaG.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1889.3 He lived at Cherrymount, County Wicklow, IrelandG.3 He invented a sun-dial which showed true clock time.3

     Major Charles Valentine Oliver was born on 9 March 1836.1 He was the son of John Dudley Oliver and Mary Susanna Green.1 He died on 10 October 1880 at age 44 at Kandahar, AfghanistanG, from smallpox.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the 66th Foot.1 He fought in the Battle of Maiwand, Kandahar in July 1880.2

     Edward Dudley Oliver was born on 25 June 1837.1 He was the son of John Dudley Oliver and Mary Susanna Green.1 He died on 1 August 1865 at age 28 at Murrerr, Lunjab, Pakistan.1,2
     He gained the rank of Captain in the 51st Foot.1

     Henry James Oliver was born on 5 July 1838.1 He was the son of John Dudley Oliver and Mary Susanna Green.1 He married Frances Martha Graves, daughter of Captain Thomas Graves, on 23 May 1864.1 He died on 12 April 1879 at age 40, killed by a young horse falling on him while he was teaching it to jump.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the 56th Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1864 at Malta in the 22nd Cheshire.2

     Frances Martha Graves was the daughter of Captain Thomas Graves.1 She married Henry James Oliver, son of John Dudley Oliver and Mary Susanna Green, on 23 May 1864.1 She died on 8 November 1885.1
     From 23 May 1864, her married name became Oliver.1
