     William Atkinson Gardner was born on 22 June 1814 at Manchester, Lancashire, England.2 He was the son of Robert Gardner.1 He married Margaret Cumming.2 He died on 21 June 1855 at age 40 at Newnham, Tasmania, Australia.2
     He emigrated to Australia arriving on 9 March 1851.2

     Jessie Ann Atkinson Gardner was the daughter of William Atkinson Gardner and Margaret Cumming.2,3 She married Captain John William St. John Hughes, son of Rev. Sir Thomas Collingwood Hughes, 8th Bt. and Elizabeth St. John Butcher, in 1863.1 She died in 1879.1
     From 1863, her married name became Hughes.

     Frederic St. John Hughes was born on 22 February 1866.1 He was the son of Captain John William St. John Hughes and Jessie Ann Atkinson Gardner.2 He married Gertrude Mabel Jane Evans, daughter of David Evans, on 12 December 1908.1 He died on 3 November 1956 at age 90.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the South Wales Borderers.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1900.1 He gained the rank of Captain and Brevet Major in the 3rd Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1916.1 He was awarded the Order of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus of Italy.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1
