     Joanna McCall was the daughter of Reverend William McCall.2 She married Hew McCowan on 21 August 1855.1 She died on 26 January 1908.1

     Sir David McCowan, 1st Bt. was born on 8 December 1860.1 He was the son of Hew McCowan and Joanna McCall.2 He married Gertrude Margaret Cargill, daughter of David Sime Cargill, on 1 October 1889.1 He died on 15 May 1937 at age 76.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the 8th Scottish Rifles.1 He was director of George Outram & Company and Burma Oils.1 He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.1 He was senior partner of William Euing & Company, marine insurance brokers.1 He was appointed Knight in 1928.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glasgow.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glasgow.1 He was created 1st Baronet McCowan, of Dalwhat, co. Dumfries [U.K.] on 26 June 1934.1

     Gertrude Margaret Cargill was the daughter of David Sime Cargill.2 She married Sir David McCowan, 1st Bt., son of Hew McCowan and Joanna McCall, on 1 October 1889.1 She died on 2 March 1935.1
     From 1 October 1889, her married name became McCowan. She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1932.1

Hew McCowan1

     Hew McCowan was born on 13 August 1890.1 He was the son of Sir David McCowan, 1st Bt. and Gertrude Margaret Cargill.2 He died on 28 June 1915 at age 24 at Gallipoli, Turkey, killed in action.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 8th Battalion, Scottish Rifles.1 He fought in the Gallipoli Campaign.1

     Sir David James Cargill McCowan, 2nd Bt. was born on 5 June 1897.1 He was the son of Sir David McCowan, 1st Bt. and Gertrude Margaret Cargill.2 He married Muriel Emma Annie Willmott, daughter of William Charles Willmott, on 24 October 1928.1 He died on 29 August 1965 at age 68.1
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet McCowan, of Dalwhat, co. Dumfries [U.K., 1934] on 15 May 1937.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dunbartonshire between 1953 and 1961.1
