     Rt. Rev. Alexander Macdonald was the son of Ranald Macdonald, 5th of Bornish.2 He died on 9 September 1791, Samalaman.1
     He was educated at Scots College, Rome, Italy.1 He was Priest between 1765 and 1780 at Barra, Scotland.2 He held the office of Bishop of the Highland District in 1780, titular Bishop of Polemo.1

Ian Macalister Macdonald, 8th of Clanranald and Moidart1

     Ian Macalister Macdonald, 8th of Clanranald and Moidart was the son of Alexander Macallan Macdonald, 7th of Clanranald and Moidart.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Macdonald, daughter of unknown Macdonald of Ardnamurchan.1 He married, secondly, unknown daughter Macdonald, daughter of Angus Macdonald, 5th of Knoydart.1 He married, thirdly, unknown daughter Neil.2 He died in 1584.2
     On 15 January 1531 he received a charter of legitimation from King James V.1 On 11 February 1531 he had a charter of his father's lands of Moidart, Arisaig, and the stronghold of Castle Tirrim.2 In 1540 he was kidnapped by the Crown and imprisoned in Edinburgh. On this, Hugh, 3rd Lord Lovat invaded Moidart and installed at Castle Tirrim his uncle, Ranald Gallda Macdonald.2 He escaped from prison and with teh support of his clan, drove out Ranald Gallda and slew him and his party (including Lord Lovat) at the Battle of Loch Lochy.2 He murdered Hugh Fraser, 3rd Lord (Fraser of) Lovat on 15 July 1544 at Loch Lochy, ScotlandG, killed in action.2 He murdered Ranald Gallda Macdonald on 15 July 1544, slain by his nephew, Ian Muiderteach Macdonald, 8th of Clanranald.2
