     Sir John Dodson was the son of Reverend John Dodson and Frances Dawson.2 He married Frances Priscilla Pearson, daughter of George Pearson, in 1822.1 He died on 27 April 1858.1
     He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Rye between 1819 and 1823.1 He was advocate at the Admiralty in 1829.1 He held the office of King's Advocate-General in 1834.1 He was Master of Faculities in 1841.1 He was Vicar-General of the Province of Canterbury in 1849.1 He was Dean of Arches and Judge Prerogative of the Court of Canterbury in 1852.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)1
