     Andrew Wallace Portal was born on 12 June 1892.¹ He was the son of Frederich Welch Portal and Marion Caroline Wallace.² He married Evelyn Marshall.¹ He died on 4 July 1987 at age 95.¹
     He fought in the First World War, he was wounded.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, Royal West Surrey Regiment.¹
