     Sir Nicholas Hardwick Fairbairn of Fordell was born on 24 December 1933 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He was the son of Dr. William Ronald Dodds Fairbairn.3 He married, firstly, Hon. Elizabeth Mary Mackay, daughter of Æneas Alexander Mackay, 13th Lord Reay and Charlotte Mary Younger, on 29 September 1962.1 He and Hon. Elizabeth Mary Mackay were divorced in 1979. He married, secondly, Suzanne Mary Wheeler in 1983.4 He died on 19 February 1995 at age 61 at Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.2
     He was appointed Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) [Scotland] in 1972.1 He was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1972.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Kinross and Perthshire between 1974 and 1983.1 He held the office of Solicitor-General [Scotland] between 1979 and 1982.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)
