     Lt.-Col. Hon. Denis Plantagenet Tollemache was born on 12 January 1884.1 He was the son of Hon. Lyonel Plantagenet Tollemache and Lady Blanche Sybil King.2 He died on 1 May 1942 at age 58, unmarried.1
     On 6 May 1905 he was granted the rank of a baron's younger son.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches and was a POW 1917-18.1 He was commander of the 1st Battalion, Northamptonshire Regiment between 1916 and 1917.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.1 He was commander of the 7th Hussars between 1923 and 1927.1 He retired from the military in 1928, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, late of the 7th Hussars.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Rutland in 1933.1
