Captain Charles Frankland Newland1

     Captain Charles Frankland Newland was born in 1812.1 He was the son of Richard Bingham Newland.1 He married, firstly, Anne Elizabeth Wood Walcott, daughter of Captain Charles Walcott, on 10 January 1850 at Liskeard, Cornwall, England.1 He married, secondly, Alicia Letitia Oldfield on 22 September 1862 at Westbourne, Sussex, England.1 He died in December 1899 at Midhurst, Sussex, England.1
     He was commissioned in 1831 with the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1831.1 He fought in the Borneo Expedition in 1846.1 He gained the rank of Commander in 1847.1 On 22 July 1849 he was court-martialed for running his ship, H.M.S. Ranger, aground at Purto Praza, St. Vincent, and was severely reprimanded.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1864.1
