     Lt.-Gen. Alexander Bethune was baptised on 20 August 1771 at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Sir William Sharp, 6th Bt. and Margaret Bethune.2 He married Maria Low, daughter of Robert Low, in 1820.1 He died in December 1847 at age 76.1
     He was given the name of Alexander Sharp at birth. He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Sharp, of Scotscraig, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] on 13 February 1780, de jure.1

     Maj.-Gen. Sir William Sharp, 6th Bt. was born on 28 January 1729 at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.1 He was the son of Sir Alexander Sharp, 5th Bt. and Margaret Hamilton.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Bethune, daughter of John Bethune, 5th of Blebo and Janet Scrimgeour.2 He married, secondly, Ana Francisca da Gama Lobo, daughter of Lt.-Col. Francisco Xavier da Silva Lobo, in 1777 at Olivença, Portugal.1 He died on 13 February 1780 at age 51 at St. Marylebone, London, England.1
     He was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.1 He fought in the Jacobite Uprising in 1745, where he was captured by the British, condemned to death but escaped to France in 1747.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1761 in the French Army.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1762 in the Portuguese Army.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1763 in the 1st Infantry Regiment.1 He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Sharp, of Scotscraig, co. Fife [N.S., 1683] in 1769.2 On 8 April 1769 he obtained a pardon from King George III.2 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1775.1
