     General James Welsh was born on 12 March 1775.1 He was the son of John Welsh and Primrose Hook Gascoigne.1 He married Sarah Light, daughter of Captain Francis Light and Martina Rozells, in 1794 at Calcutta, India.1 He died on 24 January 1861 at age 85.1
     He gained the rank of officer in the Madras Army.1
