     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 5th Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers.1 He fought in the First World War.1
