Maj.-Gen. Sir Thomas John Taylor-Berkeley was born in 1819 at Berkeley Castle, Gloucestershire, England.1 He was the son of James Hornby Taylor-Berkeley and Henrietta FitzHardinge Berkeley.1 He married Eleanor Balfour, daughter of James Balfour and Lady Eleanor Maitland. He died on 2 March 1900 at Royal Hospital, Chelsea, London, England.2
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Woolwich, Kent, EnglandG.2 He was commissioned on 12 October 1837 with the rank of Ensign, in the service of the 9th Bengal Native Infantry.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 3 January 1844.2 He gained the rank of Captain on 1 June 1854.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 October 1877.2 He fought in the Second Anglo-Afghan War between 1879 and 1880.2 He was military member of the Council of the Governor-General of India in October 1880.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1881.2

James Hornby Taylor-Berkeley was born in 1797 at Devonshire House, London, England.1 He was the son of Vice-Admiral John George Taylor and Georgiana Alice Hornby.1 He married, firstly, Henrietta FitzHardinge Berkeley, daughter of Frederick Augustus Berkeley, 5th Earl of Berkeley and Mary Cole, in 1817.1 He married, secondly, Lady Cicely Maria Loftus, daughter of John Loftus, 2nd Marquess of Ely and Anna Maria Dashwood, on 12 April 1834 at St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England.2 He died in 1866 at Cross Hall, Lancashire, England.1
