     Maj.-Gen. James Gunter was born on 5 December 1833.1 He was the son of Robert Gunter and Fanny Thompson.1 He married Laura Elizabeth Inglis, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Inglis, on 6 August 1891.1 He died on 29 August 1908 at age 74.1
     He fought in the Crimean War.1 He fought in the China War.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the 4th Dragoon Guards.1 He lived at Boston Hall, Yorkshire, England.1
