     Sir Richard Hughes Mathias, 2nd Bt. was born on 6 April 1905.1 He was the son of Sir Richard Mathias, 1st Bt. and Annie Hughes.1 He married Gladys Cecilia Turton Hart, daughter of Edwin Hart, on 1 June 1937.1 He and Gladys Cecilia Turton Hart were divorced in 1960.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Miles, daughter of Dr. William Miles, on 2 July 1960.1 He died on 4 January 1991 at age 85.2
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Squadron Leader between 1940 and 1946 in the Royal Air Force Voluteer Reserve.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1940 and 1946.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Mathias, of Vaendre Hall, St. Mellons, co. Monmouth [U.K., 1917] on 26 October 1942.1 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.2
