     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He lived at Hill House, Ayrshire, Scotland.1

     Maj.-Gen. Alexander Whitelaw Thorneycroft was born on 19 January 1859.1 He was the son of Thomas Thorneycroft and Jane Whitelaw.1 He married Rebecca Frances Percy, daughter of Major J. W. Percy, in June 1903.1 He died in November 1931 at age 72.1
     He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Zulu War between 1879 and 1881.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was mentioned in dispatches.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in the Royal Scots Fusiliers.1
