     Major Richard Desiré Girouard was born in 1905.2 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Sir Edward Percy Cranwell Girouard and Mary Gwendolen Solomon.3,4 He married, firstly, Lady Blanche Maud de la Poer Beresford, daughter of Henry de la Poer Beresford, 6th Marquess of Waterford and Lady Beatrix Frances Petty-FitzMaurice, on 26 October 1927.5 He married, secondly, Beatrice Elizabeth Katherine Grosvenor, daughter of S/Ldr. Lord Edward Arthur Grosvenor and Lady Dorothy Margaret Browne, on 3 June 1944.5 He married, thirdly, Monica Elizabeth Mary Clifford, daughter of Sir Hugh Charles Clifford and Minna à Beckett, on 10 October 1952.3 He and Beatrice Elizabeth Katherine Grosvenor were divorced in 1945.5 He died in 1989.2
     He gained the rank of Major in the Welsh Guards.5 His marriage to Beatrice Elizabeth Katherine Grosvenor was annulled in 1945.1

     He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1901.1 He held the office of High Commissioner in Northern Nigeria between 1907 and 1909.2 He held the office of Governor of the British East Africa Protectorate between 1909 and 1912.2
