     Christopher Nugent, 5th Baron Delvin was born circa 1544.2 He was the son of Richard Nugent, 4th Baron Delvin and Hon. Elizabeth Preston.3,2 He married Lady Mary FitzGerald, daughter of Gerald FitzGerald, 1st/11th Earl of Kildare and Mabel Browne, on 6 May 1575.4,5 He died on 26 August 1602 at Dublin Castle, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, a prisoner.5
     He was educated at Clare Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.5 He succeeded to the title of 5th Baron Delvin [I., 1451] on 10 December 1559.5 He was invested as a Knight in 1565.5 Between 1580 and 1585 at Tower of London, The City, London, England, imprisoned for suspected disaffection.5

Richard Nugent, 1st Earl of Westmeath1

     Richard Nugent, 1st Earl of Westmeath was born in 1583.2 He was the son of Christopher Nugent, 5th Baron Delvin and Lady Mary FitzGerald.1,3 He married Jane Plunkett, daughter of Christopher Plunkett, 8th Lord Killeen and Genet Dillon, before 1604.4 He died after May 1642, after being dragged from his coach near Trim, County Meath, and was manhandled by insurgents during the 1641 Uprising.2
     He succeeded to the title of 6th Baron Delvin [I., 1451] on 26 August 1602.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1603.2 In 1607 at Dublin Castle, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, he was imprisoned on suspicion of complicity in the rebellious activities of the Earl of Tyrconnell, but he escaped over the wall with a rope.2 In 1608 he was pardoned.2 In 1611 he was granted large tracts of land.2 He was created 1st Earl of Westmeath [Ireland] on 4 September 1621.3
