He was the son of Fernando III, Rey de Castilla y León and Elisabeth von Hohenstaufen.2 He married, firstly, Constanza de Aragón, daughter of Jaime I, Rey de Aragón and Yolante Arpád, in 1260. He married, secondly, Beatrice di Savoia, daughter of Amedeo IV Conte di Savoia and Cécile 'Passerose' des Baux, in 1269.2 He died in 1283.2
     He was also known as Manuel de Castilla.
