     Charles Peter Baring was born on 24 May 1939.1 He was the son of Raymond Alexander Baring and Margaret Fleetwood Campbell-Preston.1 He married, firstly, Sarah Withycombe, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Gill Withycombe, in 1964.1 He and Sarah Withycombe were divorced in 1974.1 He married, secondly, Susannah Jane Smith, daughter of Dr. William Ezra Smith, in 1976.1 He died in 1987.1
     Charles Peter Baring usually went by his middle name of Peter.1 He was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Horse Guards.1 He was director of W.H. Smith and Sons.1
