Philip Austyn Barran was born on 20 March 1876.1 He was the son of John Barran and Eliza Henrietta Nicholson.1 He married Dorothy Currer Briggs, daughter of Arthur Currer Briggs, on 2 January 1908.1 He died on 8 February 1953 at age 76.1
Philip Austyn Barran was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the West Riding Brigade, Royal Field Artillery (Territorial Force).1 He was chairman of Leeds Maternity Hospital.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Leeds.1
