Richard Geoffrey Gordon Berney was born on 19 January 1897.1 He was the son of Captain Thomas Hugh Berney and Fridzwede Katherine Bell.1 He married, secondly, Doris Rosemary Beckwith, daughter of Cecil Dalziel Beckwith.1 He married, firstly, Marjorie Vernon Urquhart, daughter of Lt.-Col. Vernon Urquhart, in 1930.1 He and Marjorie Vernon Urquhart were divorced after 1937.1 He died in 1962.1
