     Richard Bruce Berney was born on 8 December 1916.1 He was the son of John Hanson Berney and Margaret George.1 He died in 1947 at Karachi, Pakistan, killed in a flying accident.1
     Richard Bruce Berney gained the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the service of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, serving in the Pathfinders, Royal Air Force.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C.) (U.S.).1 He was decorated with the Air Force Cross (A.F.C.).1 He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Medal (D.F.M.).1
