Sir Hugh Douglas Blackett, 8th Bt. was born on 24 March 1873.1 He was the son of Colonel Sir Edward William Blackett, 7th Bt. and Hon. Julia Frances Somerville.1 He married Helen Katharine Lowther, daughter of George William Lowther, on 5 February 1903.1 He died on 13 November 1960 at age 87.1
Sir Hugh Douglas Blackett, 8th Bt. succeeded to the title of 8th Baronet Blackett, of Newcastle, co. Northumberland [E., 1673] on 13 September 1909.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Northumberland Yeomanry.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1914.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Northumberland.1

Helen Katharine Lowther was the daughter of George William Lowther.1 She married Sir Hugh Douglas Blackett, 8th Bt., son of Colonel Sir Edward William Blackett, 7th Bt. and Hon. Julia Frances Somerville, on 5 February 1903.1 She died on 10 January 1943, following an accident.1
