     James Cornelius Knatchbull-Hugessen was born on 26 July 1933.1 He is the son of Hon. Adrian Norton Knatchbull-Hugessen and Margaret Cecilia Duggan.1 He married Mary Rosamond Stavert, daughter of Ruben Ewart Stavert, on 12 September 1958.1
     James Cornelius Knatchbull-Hugessen was educated at Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was educated at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.1 He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1958 entitled to practice as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He held the office of Puisne Judge of the Superior Court and Court of the Queen's Bench [Quebec] between 1972 and 1973.1 He held the office of Associate Chief Justice of the Superior Court [Quebec] between 1973 and 1983.1 He held the office of Puisne Justice of the Federal Court of Appeal [Canada] in 1983.1
