     Andrew Clarence David Young was born on 15 April 1899 at Pitcairn Island.1 He was the son of David Andrew Stanley Young and Catherine Edith Warren.2 He married Catherine Almira Warren, daughter of James Sanford Warren and Ellen Catherine Young, at Pitcairn Island.2 He died on 18 March 1988 at age 88 at Pitcairn Island.1
     Andrew Clarence David Young held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1940.3 In the early 1930's, he had set up the island's first wireless. He got the parts, assembled them from instructions in a book, and taught himself the code. It was able to pick up and sent messages from 50 miles away. During the 1930's and 1940's, he was the 'Voice of Pitcairn', operator of the Pitcairn Ham Radio Station, 'VR6AY'.
In 1980, at the age of 81, Andrew proved to be very active as both guide and island historian to the crew of the 'Teiyo'. In 1982, he was described as 'The Island Patriarch'. Howard described him as 'soft-spoken, wise, amused by mankind, and for a man well into his 80's, as strong as a horse. He can't take his place in the longboats any more, but he has a steely pride in fending for himself. When a neighbor hinted that he was getting old and frail, he stalked angrily down to Bounty Bay, taking the pastor along with him as an indisputably honest timekeeper, and powerfully paddled his one-man boat completely around Pitcairn's circumference in just over an hour. Old and frail? Hah!2,4'
