     Alva Erskine Smith was born on 17 January 1853.1 She was the daughter of Murray Forbes Smith and Phoebe Desha.1 She married, secondly, Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont.1 She married, firstly, William Kissam Vanderbilt, son of William Henry Vanderbilt and Maria Louisa Kissam, on 20 April 1875 at Cavalry Church, New York City, New York, U.S.A..1 She and William Kissam Vanderbilt were divorced.1 She died on 26 January 1933 at age 80.1
     Her married name became Belmont.1 From 20 April 1875, her married name became Vanderbilt.1
