     He had one known child.1

     Sir Herbert de Maxwell of Carlavenock was the son of Sir Robert de Maxwell.1 He married Katherine Stewart, daughter of John Stewart of Dalswinton, before 10 August 1386.1 He died before 16 October 1421.1
     He held the office of Hereditary Steward of Annandale on 8 February 1409/10.2
