     Major Basil Tanfield Beridge Boothby was born on 14 January 1873.1 He was the son of Reverend Evelyn Boothby and Margaretta Jane Carr.1 He married Katharine Georgina Knox, daughter of Major Francis Blake Knox, on 23 October 1909.1 He died on 8 May 1948 at age 75.1
     Major Basil Tanfield Beridge Boothby gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Engineer.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.).1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Civil Engineers (M.I.C.E.).1 He fought in the First World War between 1916 and 1919, serving in France and Flanders, and was mentioned in despatches twice.1

     Katharine Georgina Knox was the daughter of Major Francis Blake Knox.1 She married Major Basil Tanfield Beridge Boothby, son of Reverend Evelyn Boothby and Margaretta Jane Carr, on 23 October 1909.1 She died on 20 February 1938.1
     From 23 October 1909, her married name became Boothby.1

     Evelyn Basil Boothby was born on 9 September 1910.1 He was the son of Major Basil Tanfield Beridge Boothby and Katharine Georgina Knox.1 He married Susan Penelope Asquith, daughter of Brig.-Gen. Hon. Arthur Melland Asquith, on 18 September 1946.1 He died on 9 February 1990 at age 79.1
     Evelyn Basil Boothby usually went by his middle name of Basil.1 He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1 He was in the Consular Service in 1933 at China.1 He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1933 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was Vice-Consul to Boston in 1940.1 He was Counsellor to Brussels between 1954 and 1959.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1959.1 He was head of the African Department, Foreign Office between 1959 and 1962.1 He was Ambassador to Iceland between 1962 and 1965.1 He was a lecturer between 1969 and 1970 at Morley College.1
