Peter Borrie was born on 8 March 1802 at South Latch, Abernyte, Perthshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Borrie and Margaret Mitchell.1 He married Jean Simson, daughter of Alexander Simson and Anne Duncan, on 13 March 1825 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland.1 He died on 10 January 1856 at age 53 at Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, North Riding, England.1
Peter Borrie was a millwright in 1825 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland.1 In 1833 he built the engines for the paddle steamer Forfarshire (which was lost on 7 September 1838 at Great Harcar Rock, Farne Islands).1 In 1839 he built locomotives for the London Brighton & South Coast Railway.1 He invented the modern swinging crane.1 He lived in 1848 at 3 Cres, Minories, 1 Hammet Street, London, England.1 He wrote the book Companion to the Improved Log Book for Steam Vessels, published 1849.1
