     He was educated at Guisborough Grammar School, Guisborough, Yorkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Sergeant in the service of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, an air gunner and navigator with the Pathfinders.1
