     Ian Archibald James Duff was born on 20 January 1895.2 He was the son of Reverend Charles Edmund Duff and Mary Susan Smith.3 He married Kathleen Frances Chinnery-Haldane, daughter of Patrick Vernon Chinnery-Haldane and Rebecca Clara Anna Helen Monteith, on 30 August 1916.3 He died in 1949, killed in a motor accident.2
     He was educated at Aldenham School, Elstree, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Dorset Regiment.3 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)3 He gained the rank of in the Royal Air Force.3 He graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1921 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2

     Kathleen Frances Chinnery-Haldane was born on 16 May 1896.1 She was the daughter of Patrick Vernon Chinnery-Haldane and Rebecca Clara Anna Helen Monteith.2 She married Ian Archibald James Duff, son of Reverend Charles Edmund Duff and Mary Susan Smith, on 30 August 1916.1 She died on 26 March 1932 at age 35.1
     From 30 August 1916, her married name became Duff.3
