     Colonel Hugh Calveley Cotton was born on 13 February 1798.1 He was the son of Henry Calveley Cotton and Matilda Lockwood.2 He married Louisa Brodie, daughter of James Brodie and Anne Story, on 25 April 1825.1 He died on 13 October 1881 at age 83.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Madras Engineers.3 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Honourable East India Company Service.1
