     William Gordon Lynch Cotton was born on 9 August 1838.1 He was the son of Colonel Hugh Calveley Cotton and Louisa Brodie.2 He married, firstly, Emma Clough, daughter of John Clough, on 27 January 1866.1 He married, secondly, Maggie Miller Hay, daughter of Robert Hay, in 1889.1 He married, thirdly, Adelaide Cicely Vavasour, daughter of Charles Vavasour, on 3 April 1905.1 He died on 23 January 1911 at age 72.1
     William Gordon Lynch Cotton was with the Public Works Derpartment, India.1 He was registered as a Member, Institution of Civil Engineers (M.I.C.E.).1
