Sir Andrew Murray, 1st Lord Balvaird was born circa 1597.2 He was the son of David Murray and Agnes Moncreiffe.1 A contract for the marriage of Sir Andrew Murray, 1st Lord Balvaird and Lady Elizabeth Carnegie was signed on 30 April 1628.1 He died on 24 September 1644.1
Sir Andrew Murray, 1st Lord Balvaird was invested as a Knight in 1633.1 In 1636 he had a charter of the lands of Pitlochie.1 He held the office of a Member of the General Assembly in 1638.1 As a result of his marriage, Sir Andrew Murray, 1st Lord Balvaird was styled as 1st Lord Balvaird [Scotland] on 17 November 1641.1 In March 1642 he succeeded his cousin, Mungo Murray, 2nd Viscount of Stormont, to the lands of that Lordship.1
