     John Sinclair was the son of John Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.2 He died in 1734, unmarried.1
     John Sinclair lived at Rattar, Scotland.1

     William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness was born on 2 April 1727.1 He was the son of John Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.2 He married Barbara Sinclair, daughter of John Sinclair of Scotscalder.1 He died on 29 November 1779 at age 52.1
     William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness succeeded to the title of 10th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 9 December 1765.3 On 28 November 1768 he was served heir, although an unsuccessful counterclaim was advanced by a great-grandson of David Sinclair of Broinach, brother of the 8th Earl (it appeared that the latter’s line was illegitimate, however) and his claim to the Earldom was allowed 2 May 1772.1

     Barbara Sinclair was the daughter of John Sinclair of Scotscalder.2 She married William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness, son of John Sinclair and Janet Sinclair.1 She died on 20 February 1793.1
     As a result of her marriage, Barbara Sinclair was styled as Countess of Caithness. Her married name became Sinclair.

     Lt.-Col. John Sinclair, 11th Earl of Caithness was the son of William Sinclair of Rattar, 10th Earl of Caithness and Barbara Sinclair.2 He died on 8 April 1789 at London, England, by shooting himself, unmarried.3 He was buried on 13 April 1789 at St. Marylebone Church, Marylebone, London, England.3 He died intestate and his estate was administered in October 1789.3
     Lt.-Col. John Sinclair, 11th Earl of Caithness was commissioned in 1772.3 He fought in the American War of Independence, and was wounded at the siege of Charlestown.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1777 in the service of the 76th Foot.3 He succeeded to the title of 11th Earl of Caithness [S., 1455] on 29 November 1779.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1783 in the service of the 76th Foot.3
