     Major George Bingham Arbuthnot was born on 2 December 1803.² He was the son of Rt. Rev. Alexander Arbuthnot and Susanna Bingham.³ He married Harriet Louisa Ormsby, daughter of Joseph Mason Ormsby and Catherine Johnston, on 15 July 1829.² He died on 30 May 1867 at age 63.²
     He was commissioned in 1821 with the rank of Cornet, in the service of the 3rd Madras Light Cavalry.¹ He was commander of the Governor-General's Bodyguard, Madras between 1841 and 1853.¹ He was commander of the 8th Madras Light Cavalry between 1856 and 1861.¹
