     Elizabeth Somerville is the daughter of Hugh Somerville, 6th Lord Somerville and Eleanor Seton.2,3 She married John Carmichael of that Ilk, son of William Carmichael, in 1541.1
     From 1541, her married name became Carmichael.1

     Sir John Carmichael of that Ilk was the son of John Carmichael of that Ilk and Elizabeth Somerville.2 He married Margaret Douglas, daughter of Sir George Douglas of Pittendreich.1 He died in June 1600, murdered by the Armstrongs.1
     Sir John Carmichael of that Ilk held the office of Warden of the West Marches.1 He held the office of Warden of the Middle Marches.1 In 1566 he was one of the murderers of David Rizzio, Queen Mary's secretary.1 He held the office of Scottish Ambassador to Denmark in 1588.1

     Her married name became Carmichael.1

     Sir Hugh Carmichael of Carmichael was the son of Sir John Carmichael of that Ilk and Margaret Douglas.2 He married Abigail Baillie, daughter of William Baillie of Lamington.1 He died before 16 May 1627.1
     Sir Hugh Carmichael of Carmichael held the office of Scottish Ambassador to Denmark.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.).1 He held the office of Master of the Horse in 1593.1 He held the office of Warden of the West Marches in 1602, to better avenge his father's murder.1

     Elizabeth Home is the daughter of Sir Patrick Home of Polwarth.2 She married, secondly, John Maxwell of Knock and Garrie.1 She married, firstly, Sir John Carmichael of Carmichael, son of Sir Hugh Carmichael of Carmichael and Abigail Baillie, in 1640.1
     Her married name became Maxwell.1 From 1640, her married name became Carmichael.1
