Harriet Morse was the daughter of General Robert Morse.1 She married Maj.-Gen. Sir James Carmichael Smyth, 1st Bt., son of James Carmichael Smyth and Mary Holyland, on 28 May 1816.1 She died on 23 September 1870.1

Sir James Morse Carmichael, 3rd Bt. was born on 20 July 1844.1 He was the son of Sir James Robert Carmichael, 2nd Bt. and Louisa Charlotte Butler.2 He died on 31 May 1902 at age 57, unmarried.1
Sir James Morse Carmichael, 3rd Bt. was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England.1 He was Private Secretary to Mr. John Bright in 1873.1 He unsuccessfully claimed the dormant title of the Earl of Hyndford and its associated titles.1 He was Private Secretary to Mr. Childers, Chancellor of the Exchequer between 1882 and 1885.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Carmichael Smyth [U.K., 1821] on 11 June 1883.1 He held the position of 26th Chief of the Name and Arms of Carmichael on 11 June 1883.1 He was Private Secretary to Mr. Gladstone, Prime Ministerr between 1885 and 1886.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Glasgow, St. Rollock Division between 1892 and 1895.1 On his death, his baronetcy became extinct.1
