     Hugh Cartwright Cayley was born in 1901.1 He was the son of Reverend Edward Cartwright Cayley and Alice Broughall.2 He married, firstly, Ethel Ann Farquharson Matthews, daughter of Wilmot L. Matthews, in September 1928.1 He married, secondly, Gladys Large, daughter of J. T. Large, in 1940.1 He died in 1967.1
     Hugh Cartwright Cayley graduated from Trinity College, Toronto University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 48th Highlanders of Canada.1
