     Richard Wilkins Cayley was born on 5 April 1902.1 He was the son of Hugh Charles Cayley and Annie Beatrice Wilkins.2 He married Joan Harvey Sutcliff, daughter of Dr. E. Harvey Sutcliff, on 29 June 1935.1 He died in 1991.1
     Richard Wilkins Cayley was educated at Aldenham School, Elstree, Hertfordshire, England.1 He graduated from London University, London, England, with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.).1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and Royal Electricial and Mechanical Engineers.1 He was registered as a Associate Member, Institute of Mechanical Engineers (A.M.I.Mech.E.).1
