Nicholas Richard Michael Eliot, 9th Earl of St. Germans was born on 26 January 1914. He was the son of Montague Charles Eliot, 8th Earl of St. Germans and Helen Agnes Post. He married, firstly, Helen Mary Villiers, daughter of Lt.-Col. Charles Walter Villiers and Lady Kathleen Mary Cole, on 25 April 1939.1 He and Helen Mary Villiers were divorced in 1947.1 He married, secondly, Margaret Eleanor Wyndham, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Francis George Wyndham, on 27 May 1948. He and Margaret Eleanor Wyndham were divorced in 1959. He died in 1988.

Margaret Gamage was the daughter of Sir Thomas Gamage.1 She married William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham, son of Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk and Agnes Tilney, before 1536.2 She died on 18 May 1581.3
From before 1536, her married name became Howard. As a result of her marriage, Margaret Gamage was styled as Baroness Howard of Effingham on 11 March 1554.
