Colonel D'Arcy Chaytor was born in 1873.1 He was the son of John Clervaux Chaytor and Emma Fearon.2 He married Avis Anne Edwin, daughter of Commander Robert Atherton Edwin, in 1908.1 He died on 9 October 1960, without issue.1
He was educated at Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901.1 He was decorated with the award of the Order of the Nile (3rd Class).1 He was decorated with the award of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Officers' Decoration (V.D.).1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Marines.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1 He was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the New Zealand Military Forces.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1
