Admiral Sir William Montagu Dowell was born on 2 August 1825.2 He was the son of Reverend William Dowell and Charlotte Theresa Yonge.1,2 He married Caroline Johanna Pyke, daughter of Captain John Pyke and Caroline Sarah Yonge, in 1855.2 He died on 27 December 1912 at age 87 at Ford, Bideford, Devon, England.2
