     Lt.-Cdr. Michael Stapylton Godson gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (A) in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of Distinguished Service Cross (D.S.C.).1
